Take care of your back.

  • Using a bath chair or bench in the tub is easier and safer for you and your loved one.
  • Grab bars and toilet seat raisers can be installed.  Be sure to use a professional to ensure proper installation.
  •  A lifting seat cushion allows the user to raise and lower themselves on a chair; they are portable so you can take them with you to the doctor, church or from room to room.
  • Reduce excess strain on your muscles and back, following these suggestions from the Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons:

    - Keep your head and neck in line with your spine at all times
    - Don’t twist your spine into awkward positions
    - Avoid bending at the waist
    - Hold the person you are lifting close to your body
    - Keep your feet a shoulders’ width apart to help maintain balance.
    - Lift with your legs to avoid straining your back
    - If the person is too heavy, ask for help
